Bristol's Radio Caroline Group have been together for over eight years, running one-month broadcasts in both 1996 and 1997 before competing for a licence to run a permanent station in Bristol in 1999, only to be pipped at the post by what eventually became Star FM.

The Group firmly believe that the music loving people of Bristol have more than enough easy listening material, thank you, and that the city is crying out for a credible alternative. Research has backed up the claim that a latent demand for 'real' music exists and you only have to look at the long line of Bristol artists, from Massive Attack and Portishead to Roni Size and Martina Topley-Bird to see that this City has its own vibrant music scene.

In 2003 the Group decided it was time to state their case once again and this time they're serious! The first in a series of one-month broadcasts from a top secret location in Bristol docks went live on 29th February 2004. Feedback from listeners and advertisers has been overwhelming. Bristol's media have also supported the cause with regular mentions in the Evening Post, Western Daily Press, Venue Magazine and BBC Bristol to name but a few.

It's time we made people sit up and take notice.

The plan from here is to build a platform for a new permanent station. Bristol deserves better. Much better. And the boys and girls from Caroline plan to deliver!
